- What are the benefits of wearing Silkbody?
Silkbody helps you maintain a natural balance between your body and the outside world. Silkbody’s protein fibres warm naturally to your body’s temperature and provide a protective layer, trapping warm air like a fine second skin. Wearing Silkbody helps you adapt to external climate fluctuations with its natural breathability and moisture management.
LIGHTWEIGHT Silkbody is soft and extremely lightweight. You feel like you’re hardly wearing anything at all.
DRY Silkbody keeps your skin dry because the hygroscopic silk fibre absorbs one third its own weight in moisture without feeling damp. The absorbed moisture is evaporated into the environment or absorbed by outer clothing layers. Your Silkbody also dries fast – on or off the body.
SAFE AND NATURAL Our fabrics are made from only natural fibres. Silk is one of the safest fibres you can wear next to your skin because it is naturally flame resistant. Where synthetics melt, silk burns to harmless ash.
ONE GARMENT FOR ALL SEASONS Winter and Summer, Silkbody provides thermal balance. Wear your Silkbody for luxurious warmth in winter or as a super-lightweight, breathable garment in summer that will keep you dry and cool. Its versatility makes it perfect for travel.
SMOOTH AS Silk feels softer against the skin than other fibres because it has a smooth surface and is extremely fine. With an average diameter of 11 micons (0.011mm), the silk fibre is one of the softest you can wear.
GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN The natural gum that binds the silk cocoon together is called sericin. Sericin is believed to be beneficial to the health of your skin, much like the lanolin in wool, as it contains many essential amino acids. The sericin is also responsible for the natural fragrance of Silkbody fabrics, which will subside after several washes.
ONLY SILK IS SILK! Many fabrics claim to feel “soft as silk” but what could be better than the real thing? Synthetic fibres such as polyester were first developed last century from a desire to imitate the precious silk fibre. But silk has unique properties that no manmade fibre can imitate.
- How does Silkbody compare to merino wool?
Because silk is a protein fibre just like wool, it has many similar properties, including odour-resistance, warmth, fire resistance and moisture absorbency. However silk is lighter, smoother, finer and stronger than merino wool, which means very lightweight, durable and soft fabrics can be created that dry faster.
- Lighter. Silk fibres are very fine, only 11 microns.
- Softer. Silk fibres have a smooth surface that feels luxurious on the skin.
- Dries faster. Lighter fabrics mean faster faster drying.
- Safer. Silk burns at 170 degrees celcius.
- Stronger. Silk fibres have the tensile strength of steel wire.
- As warm as. Silk is as warm as merino wool, weight for weight.

EASY CARE WASHING GUIDELINES
- Turn your Silkbody inside out and wash gently by hand or machine
- Cool to warm temperatures are best. Do not overheat with a hot-water wash or hot iron.
- Use a mild detergent, such as a wool wash. We recommend the Ecostore wool wash. There’s no need for harsh chemicals such as strong washing powders or bleach. These contain brighteners and whiteners that can damage the silk fibre.
- Rinse well. Squeeze or gentle spin excess water. Do not wring.
- Line dry or hang inside out of direct sunlight. No tumble driers required. It doesn’t take long!
- Cool iron only (set iron to delicate or wool setting)
Allow 5% shrinkage
DO NOT
- Do not rub a stain. This causes fading
- Do not tumble dry
- Do not dry in direct sunlight, sun fades garments
- Do not use washing powders or stain remover, these can strip the colour & make the garment ‘chalky’ to touch
- To remove perspiration or deodorant build up under the arms, soak overnight in a bucket of cool to lukewarm water with a half-cup of white vinegar added. The vinegar neutralises the alkaline build up left by sweat and washing powders. Rinse and line dry or wash as normal.
- To remove oil stains left by food, try sponging with warm water and a little mild dish wash detergent. The key is to get to it quickly and NEVER rub at the stain. Sandwich the wet fabric between a towel and press together to remove the moisture, then leave to dry.
- If in doubt, ‘phone a friend’, ‘ask an Aunty’ or call us on 0800 SILKBODY.
- What is the difference between Relaxed Fit and Standard Fit?
- Relaxed Fit styles are designed to flatter the fuller figure. They are more generous than the Standard Fit through the waistline, bust and upper arm areas.
- What’s that smell?
- The natural gum that binds the silk cocoon together is called sericin. Sericin is believed to be beneficial to the health of your skin, much like the lanolin in wool, as it contains many essential amino acids. The sericin is also responsible for the natural fragrance of Silkbody fabrics, which will subside after several washes.
